Winter Camp - December 2016

Week of December 19-23, 2016

Top Chef - It's the Holidays!
Grades 3-5

Celebrate the holidays making holiday classics and classics-with-a-twist.  We will bake delicious cookies and create scrumptious sweets throughout the day.  Following a long-held tradition, at the end of the day you will wrap them with nice wrapping and take them home to give to your family, friends and neighbors.  A gift from the heart that is simply priceless!

Week Fee: $475

A minimum of 6 students is required

Human Biome Research Project
Grades 5-10

In a one-of-a-kind learning experience, children will be gathering the data that was collected from all the campers' own internal and external biome as well as on the MUNI buses this summer.  They will then analyze the data using an advanced biotech software, Geneious, generate hypotheses, draw conclusions and decide the subject on which they will create a scientific poster. The results will be submitted to the San Francisco Middle School Science Fair.

Unlike the rest of our programs, this camp will involve reading, writing and mostly thinking/analyzing. There will be just a few hands-on activities and games to illustrate ideas.

This course is open only to students who attended the Human Biome or Bio-Engineering camp this past summer.  Space is limited.

Week Fee: $475

Week of December 27 - 30, 2016
(no camp Monday, Dec 26th)

Metalsmith - Color
Grades 5-8

Add color to winter by exploring color and light with several projects created with enamel. You will create lovely holiday gifts, and have lots and lots of fun making things together! Together we will enjoy a cozy holiday craft atmosphere while making enamel earrings, keychains, and personal keepsakes. You will work with fire, acids and tools.  Beginners and advanced students alike will feel challenged and engaged by this session.

Led by Emma Macchiarini Mankin-Morris, a third generation metal smithsin the Macchiarini family. She draws her inspiration from the work of her Father and Grandfather, as well as her love for the natural world. Many of her pieces relate to objects, or places in nature, and, or , the human form.
